The series is based on the artist’s direct experience in the forests of Pracharbon, beneath Monte Rosa, during the winter of 2024/2025. The artist continues his process of analysing the transformations of the Alpine landscape. here, as well, by inhabiting it.
The wood is silent, white, black. and the protagonist trees, charred, become substrates for the growth of pioneer organisms. Lichens, inhabitants of the foliage. They colour the landscape, white, black. The artist portrays their presence using oil pastels in light blue, lichenescent tones on burnt canvases. The body of work, using colour and texture, evokes the vibrations of the snowy landscape, its delicate balance. The sign, the stroke, highlights the transformations, the contrasts, the light.

In the Lichenescent series, the artist’s aim is to de-structure the image in a process that synthesises its distinctive features through light. Light and its interaction with the elements becomes the key to understanding the landscape; light that not only illuminates, but also reflects, radiates, dazzles, and influences our perception of space. With this series, the artist focuses on the visual reinterpretation of landscape properties, movements, growth and ecosystem cycles. This practice can be seen as a form of simulation, where representation does not conceal reality, but reveals it through a new perspective, where gesture, colour and light emphasise the transformations of the contemporary landscape.
